Top - Pederneira

Pederneira is the oldest town of the three that make up this urban ensemble. Pederneira already existed at the time of foundation of the Mosteiro de Alcobaça, by Cistercian monks in the late twelfth century, located at the southeast of its current location, on the bank of the lake of the same name.

This historical place offers beautiful views over the bay of Nazaré, in particular, from the viewpoint near Igreja da Misericórdia da Pederneira and the cemetery.

Also, it is recommended to visit the Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Areias, located in Largo Bastião Fernandes, which also has a peculiar pillory - a fossilized tree trunk, believed to have been used as the Neolithic menhir.
